Meet Melissa

Melissa Canales-Garza  is an educator in the area of second language acquisition, dual language education.  She has experience in curriculum integration for biliteracy education.   Ms. Canales has over 25 years of bilingual teaching experience.  She provides professional development to bilingual, ESL teachers, and administrators on instructional practices that promote biliteracy.  

Her professional development focuses on effective strategies that provide emergent bilinguals the necessary tools to be successful in acquiring a second language.   For instance, Preview, View and Review (PVR), translanguaging pedagogy, cross linguistic connections, dual language program implementation and ESL strategies that ensure high levels of success for emergent bilingual students.
